PHONES AT EMBANGWENIFrom the USA, all calls to Malawi require the use of the 'country code' of 265. That means that a normal way of calling into Malawi would be to dial 011 265 and then the telephone number. All phone numbers within Malawi start with a ZERO '0'. From within Malawi, this is dialed. From outside the country, this initial ZERO is NOT DIALED. So to call a Malawi number from the USA, you would dial 011 265 XX XXX XXX (ie the phone number without the leading 0). Remember when calling Malawi from the USA, they are 6 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time. Malawi is on GMT+2 time. DO NOT Call them at late hours there just because it is a good time in the USA. At 6 pm EDT, it is midnight in Malawi. At 6pm PDT - it is 3am in Malawi. The best time to call is usually in the morning or early afternoon in the USA. There is currently no permanent western doctor stationed at Embangweni. Dr. Martha Sommers moved to Ekwendeni in December, 2009.
